Halfway up

a couple looking at the mountains

To stay too long on the plateau

after a long, hard climb

risks mistaking the equipment you came with,

the stuff on the inside

and out, for the makings of a scene,

a tableau that urges you to settle in,

to call this place home,

while losing sight of the summit,

the site of glory—the reward

of faith and perseverance—

you once ventured to claim,

as your own.

This a poem about perseverance and its built-in rewards. To support my work of bringing poetry to the page, and making summit-seeking part of the conversations we share with each other along the way, check out – https://www.buymeacoffee.com/daynamazzuca
